ReNewsable Digest Renewable Energy News

Good gorgeous Friday morning! We've got two days in a row that I didn't wake to raindrops pattering the windowpane, which makes today a great day in my book. If you haven't got your coffee yet, grab a cup and take a break with the latest news from the world of renewable energy. There's some good stuff here today.

From the Wall Street Journal, an interview with Sultan Al Jaber, head of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Co. about siting the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency in Saudi Arabia. I can't decide if it's just wrong to HQ IRENA in the capital of Oil Country, or just right that the country that got rich off carbon fuel should spearhead the effort toward carbon neutrality.

Also in this morning's renewable energy news, the 8th World Wind Energy Conference announced its resolutions for promoting worldwide renewable energy. They include removing all subsidies to create a level playing field and raising political and social awareness of renewable energy.

In Ireland, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment announced a Green New Deal to encourage investment in smart renewable energy innovation. Minister Coughlan said Ireland’s objective is to develop a smart economy and become known as the innovation island.

In Paris yesterday, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development adopted a Green Growth Declaration, promising to strengthen support for green growth strategies in response to the current crisis. At the UN, the ministers of the UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme) echoed and welcomed the Green Growth Declaration and reiterated their support for environmental initiatives.

In the U.S., the House is expected to vote on an energy bill today. The energy bill was pushed by President Obama in a Rose Garden speech and in private meetings with Democrats as a job creator and "good for the economy". At the same time, participants at the Renewable Energy Finance Forum discussed government's role in clean energy financing, and in Norway, the government proposed sea energy regs.

Renewsable Quote of the Day

“A smart economy is a green economy.”

-Tánaiste Mary Coughlan TD., Irish Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment

That's today's ReNewsable Digest. Come on back Monday for a catch-up on the weekend's news and to find out what's going on in the world of renewable energy.
