Funky, Fun Green Furniture

by Terese Hartjoy @ Thorne's World

reuse repurpose upcycle furniture

How about turning an old armoire into a super cool computer station? Or a suitcase into a cat bed? Maybe an old speaker box into a coffee table (complete with popcorn bowl)? It really is time to clean out the garage...

Fashionistas, Unite!

by Terese Hartjoy @ Thorne's World

clothing bedsheets fabric recycling upcycling

If you're like me you don't really mind sending your out dated styles to your favorite charity. I actually get a warm fuzzy feeling when I donate nice clothing that I no longer wear to a local women's shelter. Sometimes though an item just screams for me to keep it. Sometimes it's because of the memories or the fabric, but sometimes the item is torn in a way that would be too tacky to wear or use even if it were mended.

I have that problem with a favorite set of high thread count sheets that I adore, but have suffered an accident, so I was pretty jazzed to discover Julia Faye who has made an adorable summer frock from bedsheets! And how about making super snuggly baby toys from those old cashmere sweaters? I love it.

One Person's Trash Another's Treasure

by Terese Hartjoy @ Thorne's World

upcycle repurpose crafts eco art

From bloggers to businesses creative people find new ways to give new life to the "waste" of others. One person's trash becomes another's treasure as item by item people are saving space in the landfills by reusing, repurposing and upcycling.

Curbside finds get a new life with these rescued and repurposed home furnishings or this wicker chair and a spot of paint.

Dr Declutterbug has great ideas for cleaning up along with some photos of beautiful upcycled sculpture from the Leanin' Tree Sculpture Gardens in Boulder Colorado, and TransAction creates wearable body art from leather scraps that large leather companies would otherwise throw away!

Every Inkle Counts!

by Terese Hartjoy @ Thorne's World

upcycling crafts weaving repurpose

I don't know what an "Inkle Loom" is, but it's a great word, isn't it? It sounds tiny to me...

Q: "How much room do you need to do that?"
A: "Oh, just an inkle."

Q: "Are you going to be finished soon?"
A: "In an inkle!"

Q: "Would you like a second helping?"
A: "Well, I suppose I could eat another inkle and still have room for dessert."

Turns out that it is indeed a tiny loom, perfect for weaving bracelets or ribbons from mystery thread. I like it. What can you do in an inkle to make a difference?

Give that Old Terra Cotta Pot a Facelift

Trash Thursday Give that Old Terra Cotta Pot a Facelift by Terese Hartjoy

I talk a lot about saving garbage from our land fills around here. "Our land fills?", I hear you ask. Damn tootin', they are ours! Bought and paid for with the construction waste left over from building our homes, with our outdated appliances and computer hardware, our junkmail and packaging waste and left-over food.  Read more...
