Green Business Technology News
The Wall Street Journal has a great article this morning about microgeneration of renewable energy and how Italy is jumping on the bandwagon with subsidies and tax credits for consumers who set up their own microgeneration plants at home. If those junk emails from Bill Ford telling you to stop paying for your electricity are intriguing, this is one story you want to read.
Indian solar power companies, which have been supplying solar equipment and technology to the world at large for over 15 years, are now being encouraged by the Indian government to encourage solar energy transition domestically. India's Business Standard reports on how Indian solar power companies are lighting up India.
And how about those "green collar jobs"? According to a new study done by the Pew Charitable Trusts, those jobs are growing at a rate more than double the growth rate of traditional jobs - 9% growth in green jobs from 1999-2007 in contrast to 3.7% growth for those same years in traditional jobs. The boost in funding through the stimulus bill is likely to grow those green sector jobs even faster, according to an article about green collar jobs in the Boston Herald.
Green Energy Information and Knowledge
How much do you know about solar energy? If you're the "average American", PV-Tech.org suggests you may not know as much as you think. The blog about photovoltaic and solar energy reported on a survey about solar energy attitudes in the U.S. which found that most Americans are "exuberant and ignorant" about basic solar energy knowledge.
Confused about the "smart grid"? Buzzwords sound great, but an awful lot of people aren't quite sure what they mean. Check out this article about the smart grid from The Economist for a great explanation of what a smart grid could mean.
Green Energy Quote of the Day
“With all the emphasis in the stimulus and energy bills, there’s going to be new demand and a lot more investment in these businesses, which will mean more jobs,” said Joel Yudken, principal of High Road Strategies and a member of an advisory panel for the Pew study. “It’s a growth area, there’s no question about that.”
