Schwarzenegger Vetoes Bill

As threatened, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed green energy legislation passed by the legislature in September. Schwarzenegger has made it clear that he would veto the bill unless the legislature amended it to remove what he calls "protectionist" clauses that require energy and resources to be bought and sourced only within California. The Governator has his own plan, which he believes is better for the state and its budget.

States competing for green money

The funding push for green energy has touched off some major competition for green enerngy grants and loans. Bolstered by federal incentives, many states are offering incentives to both industry and customers to go green, increasing the demand for green appliances, green cars and green energy.

Energy execs push for standards

Leaders who met with US Energy and Treasury secretaries yesterday urged the government to push for firm renewable energy standards, stating that a firm set of renewable energy standards would encourage investments in green energy far better than the up and down incentives that have been the norm.

Home Depot Debuts Eco Label

Home Depot, the US-based chain of home improvement stores, has launched a new labeling initiative throughout their stores. The Eco Options label identifies 3,700 products throughout the store that have "less impact on the environment than competitors".

Europe Examines Barriers to Solar

A dozen European countries have launched the PV Legal initiative, an effort to examine the barriers that prevent the adoption of solar voltaic energy throughout Europe. The goal of the initiative is to examine the problems that have been experienced in the quest to increase solar PV adoption.
