The Angels Tonight

What about sunrise?
What about rain?
What about all the things
That you said we
were to gain...?

Wikipedia: "Earth Song" is the third single from Michael Jackson's album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I. It is a ballad that incorporates elements of blues, gospel and opera. Jackson had a long-standing history of releasing socially conscious material such as "We Are the World", "Man in the Mirror" and "Heal the World". However, "Earth Song" was the first that overtly dealt with the environment and animal welfare.

Sadly, today marks the passing of an era.

Did I like his music?  Not that much.  It was catchy but I preferred Queen, LED Zepelin and others.

What about killing fields?
What about all the things
That you said were
yours and mine...?

But I have to admit the man had (renewable) energy.  He could dance like no other and had a global following on par with the Beatles and Elvis.

Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before?

Did I like him?   I don't know.

Did I respect him?  Absolutely!

You see, while others were ridiculing, I was feeling for a shy reclusive man in the public's eye;  like me a man very much misunderstood.  Unlike me, he absorbed more public ridicule in his adult years than you or I will in a dozen lifetimes.

Ridiculed for trying to become white, he was in fact covering up a rare skin disease called vitiligo.

Ridiculed for his plastic surgery.  Well, the plastic surgery did start after his hair caught fire during filming of a 1984 Pepsi commercial.  Now many of us believe he had many plastic surgeries.  Maybe he had a psychological problem.  Maybe, as he claims, he only had surgery to correct complications for the second degree burns.  Maybe it is not our business.

Was he a child abuser?  I doubt it.  It is pretty obvious that he was an easy target, easy money.   But we may never know for sure.

Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the
weeping shores?

Today I learned from All Michael Jackson that

"He was listed in the 2000 edition of the Guiness Book Of World Records for breaking the world record for the "Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star".

"He loves children and takes time out when touring secretly visting sick children. He also has special rooms at his home Neverland for sick and terminally ill children to stay over."
(The same children whose families turn around and sue for millions.  Like I said, easy target, easy money.)

Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war?

Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the
weeping shores?

I used to dream
I used to glance
beyond the stars
Now I don't know where we are
Although I know
we've drifted far

Madonna - please don't cry.  For you see all the angels in heaven are learning to Moon Dance at this very moment.

Thank you Michael for enriching my life and supporting so many charitable causes.

From Wikipedia
"We Are the World" is a 1985 song written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, produced and conducted by Quincy Jones and recorded by a supergroup of popular musicians billed as USA for Africa.

The Words of Michael Jackson, Oxford University, 2001

. . . "I do have a claim to having experienced more places and cultures than most people will ever see. Human knowledge consists not only of libraries of parchment and ink - it is also comprised of the volumes of knowledge that are written on the human heart, chiselled on the human soul, and engraved on the human psyche. And friends, I have encountered so much in this relatively short life of mine that I still cannot believe I am only 42. I often tell Shmuley that in soul years I'm sure that I'm at least 80 - and tonight I even walk like I'm 80! So please harken to my message, because what I have to tell you tonight can bring healing to humanity and healing to our planet. . . . Through the grace of God, I have been fortunate to have achieved many of my artistic and professional aspirations realised early in my lifetime. But these, friends are accomplishments, and accomplishments alone are not synonymous with who I am. . . . Tonight, I come before you less as an icon of pop (whatever that means anyway), and more as an icon of a generation, a generation that no longer knows what it means to be children. All of us are products of our childhood. But I am the product of a lack of a childhood, an absence of that precious and wondrous age when we frolic playfully without a care in the world, basking in the adoration of parents and relatives, where our biggest concern is studying for that big spelling test come Monday morning.
. . . In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe. . . . To all of you tonight who feel let down by your parents, I ask you to let down your disappointment. To all of you tonight who feel cheated by your fathers or mothers, I ask you not to cheat yourself further. And to all of you who wish to push your parents away, I ask you to extend you hand to them instead. I am asking you, I am asking myself, to give our parents the gift of unconditional love, so that they too may learn how to love from us, their children. So that love will finally be restored to a desolate and lonely world. . . . Shmuley once mentioned to me an ancient Biblical prophecy which says that a new world and a new time would come, when "the hearts of the parents would be restored through the hearts of their children". My friends, we are that world, we are those children."

Music icon made special visit to Stockton in 1989 "Twenty years ago, Michael Jackson visited Stockton to help a shattered community heal in the aftermath of the Cleveland Elementary School shootings. On Feb. 7, 1989 - three weeks after five children were killed on the Cleveland School playground - Jackson arrived in Stockton after a world tour. He was at the height of his popularity. Jackson visited every classroom at Cleveland, stopped by Central United Methodist Church to meet wounded children and sat with two more children still recovering from their wounds at San Joaquin General Hospital."
Heal The World' song launched for Red Balloon Centre in Liverpool "Pop icon Michael Jackson has given his song 'Heal The World' to a group of young entertainers from Merseyside to help raise money for the James Bulger Red Balloon Centres Appeal."
Pete Wentz: "There will never be another. He was the royalty of American culture. I could measure the growth of my life based on him. I have never felt such public grief for someone I have never met. A legend. I practiced his moves in the mirror. … We lost the last legendary entertainer of my generation. I feel lost without his presence. Sorry if this is kind of jumbled and emotional. I don’t even know what to say."
