Buy Food Locally
Sunday, June 29, 2008 at 12:50AM | How can you combat climate change while buying food? Here are some suggestions:
Ignore the trend towards globalization of the food industry. Imported food requires requires substantial amounts of energy for transportation. Buy local and if possible buy your food from a local farmer's market. The farmer's market tends to use less energy used than a normal supermarket.
Don't buy frozen food, only fresh. It takes approximately 10 times more energy for frozen versus fresh food. And also loook for organic food where available. Organic soil absorbs more carbon dioxide than conventional farm land.
