Does Bigfoot Really Exist?
Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 10:35PM | The latest Bigfoot hoax brings out the skepticism regarding the existence of this mythical species. Is it simply legend / folklore or is there really an ape-like biped roaming remote areas of the United States, Canada and other parts of the world? I recently decided to tackle this challenging subject and did a very exhaustive investigation. In the end I believe that I came up with THE ANSWER that the world has been searching for. But for me it was shocking and unexpected.
After spending many hours studying newspaper clips of Bigfoot sightings and hazy photos of the mythical beast, I decided to focus my attention on one particular photo, perhaps the most famous of them all. I would like to point out that the s/w that I used to analyze this photo is state of the art. It would not have been possible to perform this analysis prior to the 9/11 disaster and response i.e. major improvements to image processing solutions for the security of western countries. So, even though this picture has been analyzed repeatably in the past it was without the benefit of today's image enhancement, feature analysis and biometrics software available today.

Original Patterson Bigfoot picture with area of interest marked in red.
Digitally enhanced image using fourier transform and edge enhancement software.
Feature identification and optimized feature replacement S/W was used to further enhance the image.
At this point in time I had gotten as far as I could with the s/w I had access to. Fortunately I have a buddy who works in the CIA. I sent the picture off to him for further analysis. After a couple of weeks he replied, indicating that he had processed the face using biometrics s/w and checked the face against a facial feature database of 75 million people. Although biometrics is not an exact science there was one match (86% probability) that was distinctly higher than all of the others. And the match happened to be former Vice President Al Gore!
Now I was totally shocked! How did Al Gore, Nobel Prize winner and author of An Inconvenient Truth get into this picture! Surely I must have gotten too carried away with the image processing. I must be fooling myself or delusional.
I spent many days thinking about this before deciding to investigate Al Gore further. My curiosity level was much too high to abandon this now. So I got on the internet and found out everything I could about the man. And the results of what I found were not pretty.
Although Al Gore preaches energy conservation, his own energy consumption is astronomical. His primary mansion consumes approximately 20 times more energy than the average American's home. And the average American has a carbon footprint 5 times the world average. Here is a man preaching conservation but consumes an estimated 100 times more energy than the average world citizen. Below are some internet links to articles on this topic.

ABC News: Al Gore's 'Inconvenient Truth' - A $30,000 Utility Bill
FOX News: Al Gore's Inconvenient Electric Bill
Now here is the real kicker. A spokesperson for Al Gore states that he brings his carbon footprint down to zero by buying carbon offsets. But the company that receives the money that Al Gore pays out was founded by and is partially owned by Al Gore himself. In fact he is chairman of the company. Here is a quote from a blog by BIll Hobbs:
|
"... Gore runs around the country and the world trumpeting "climate crisis" and blaming man's use of carbon-based energy - burning thousands of gallons of jet fuel as he goes. His efforts have served to put climate change at the top of the national and even global agenda, driving up the value of the stocks and companies viewed as "green" or environmentally friendly. Companies like those his investment management firm invest his own and other peoples' money in. (You can see a list of Generation Investment Management's holdings here, courtesy of the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.) As one commenter posting here and on other blogs has noted: Hmmm. The Goracle is chairman and a founding partner of Generation Investment Management LLP, a boutique international investment firm that invests other peoples' money, for a fee, into the stocks of 'green' companies. ... So when Al beats the drum for possible future global warming, he's also drumming up business. And profiting from hyping the "global warming" crisis." |
So now it is all becoming clear to me. Yes there really is a Bigfoot. An ecological Bigfoot. And it is Al Gore!. But let's not stop there. If you live in North America your ecological footprint is 4-5 times the world average. Any other developed country still has a significantly large ecological footprint compared to those in developing countries.
So the answer is: Yes Virginia, there really is a Bigfoot. An ecological Bigfoot. And he exists in us all!

Well, you undoubtedly raise a great point about the consumption of Al Gore. And I don't disagree that he should consume less, which would lend more power to the statements he makes regarding environmental awareness. However, I still think he has done quite a bit of good to bring this issue into the forefront. I believe that you can do the right thing and the wrong thing at the same time--but I tend to focus more on the right things people do than the bad.

I agree I was a bit rough on Mr. Gore. He certainly has done some good things and there is a tendency to be more critical of people in the spotlight. Hopefully I partially balanced it out by pointing out that we all have some issues.
My main criticism (unfortunately I didn't put in the original blog post) is that his behind the scenes actions open the door for the climate change critics. You know - those people that believe that the world's scientists are promoting global warming as a problem because they are well-payed to do so. And you may have seen a post on BlogCatalog to the effect that the whole climate change issue is simply a means of creating new taxes. I have a co-worker that actually believes this. The truth we won't know until it is too late.
I am really glad you put in that final comment. I agree with Melinda. I don't know much about who's house, boat, car is how big...just don't read that stuff. But I do see man who has been able to stand up and change peoples minds, and most importantly, he seems to have done it all over the world.
What is so very real is that global warming really starts to come into politics and popular culture like no other environmental issue before it. We are, after all, talking about perhaps destroying most of our major cities, etc... People will react in all sorts of way, and that fact that is is going to be so political means that you are right...the biggest spokesmen should look a clean shade of green.
