Water Heater

Did you know that heating water accounts for up to 20% of your household energy costs?  If you have a natural gas water heater then you should drain a pail of water from the hot water tank every three months or as recommended by the manufacturer.  This will remove sediment that reduces heat transfer and lowers efficiency.

I must admit that I really don't like cold water for my bath, but as I have learned that cold water is healthier when taking a bath so I decided to take the last bath with cold water, so I still need to have my hot water. And the tip you gave gave me an idea on how to conserve energy.

During a time when my hot water heater was broken and I desperately needed a bath (doctor appt. next day), I guiltily put large pans on the electric stove and began boiling. Also put large bowls in the microwave. Within a very short time I had enough hot water that I needed to add cold in order to get in the tub. I wonder what the difference would be in energy usage.
