Trash To Cash

Yard Sale ImageAs we move from the hot Summer months to the changing colors and milder temperatures of Fall many of us are scrambling to squeeze the last drops of Summertime fun from the season, but sooner or later our minds turn to spending more time indoors and to the coming holidays. If you are like me, once the Summer toys moved out of the garage, somehow the empty spaces got filled in with items of furniture culled from the house, boxes of books and clothing that somehow never made it to the thrift store, and a whole slew of miscellaneous "junk" that just didn't seem to fit anywhere.

As I look around the house too, I notice the place that I usually set up the tree in December has mysteriously been filled with furniture and the dining room has collected a miscellany of unfinished craft projects. But I am not dismayed.

Yard Sale!!

That's right. What better way to clean out the house and garage, make a little extra cash for the holidays and divert my "trash" from the landfill by offering it to those to whom it might be a treasure?

It might seem like a big undertaking, but with just a little planning a garage sale is easy and fun. If I don't have a central space to organize the things I want to get rid of I arm myself with a roll of blue painter's tape and a sharpie and stroll through the house and garage marking items I want to get rid of. When the kids were young, I'd give them each a roll of tape and sharpie of their own and let them mark things they'd like to sell. It's a great opportunity to offer some value lessons to the kids in a fun and exciting (and profitable) way. Tell them how they'll be offering their used items so that someone else can enjoy them and that they can have some fun and make a little money while they're at it!

If you follow a few simple guidelines your Yard or Garage Sale will go off without a hitch!

  • Before you set a date, be sure to check with the city you live in for their rules and policies. Many cities have specific times and even dates that you may have a yard sale without risking a fine, and some even require a permit.
  • Your next calls might be to your local newspapers and even throwaways. Many of them offer free ads for yard sales.
  • Make your signs readable to drivers, clearly state the date, days and times of your sale and make sure that you have a number of signs with large arrows going opposite directions ~~~> and <~~~ for easy navigation of shoppers.
  • Price your items to sell, but leave yourself a little leeway for bargaining. Yard "sailors" love to haggle, so don't deprive them or yourself of the fun!
  • Make sure to have a change fund
  • Have fun!!!

That's about it. Be sure to take your signs down when you're done, and take anything left over to your local shelter or thrift store. Yard sales are a great way to clean up make a little cash and live green!

Apart from tears, only time could wear everything away. While feeling is being processed by time, conflicts would be reconciled as time goes by, just like a cup of tea that is being continuously diluted.rolex masterpiece make you feel good.
