Environmentally Responsible Kids Learn From Home

The world is relying on environmentally responsible kids.

If you are looking to the leaders of tomorrow to solve the problems of the environment and improve the state of the planet as we know it, begin now by concentrating on the children of today.

Not that they need too much prodding. Today's young people are quite aware of their surroundings and where the problems lie much more than we realize and give them credit for.

If a young person is raised within a family that cares about the environment as much as they should, that's a solid beginning towards shaping their way of thinking for the betterment of the future.

Kids look to their families as role models, and especially the very young ones are natural copiers of what they see. This puts the responsibility on the adults to practice the best possible methods of protecting the resources they have not just specifically in the home, but outside of the home as well.

As a parent, your habits and mannerisms will naturally form the rules and the ways of the household, and your child will learn from them, and carry those with him into their own households someday.

Delegation of chores and responsibilities of the activities that directly promote your philosophies will enhance the learning experience greatly.

If you believe in frugality and thriftiness, one of the things your child will learn is how to make do and not be so quick to toss something away that appears to serve no further purpose, and consequently seems of little or no value. No doubt your child may be inspired to develop their own creative thinking habits.

If you show a love and respect for nature and all it has to offer, your children will learn to appreciate the beauty of it as well, and treat it accordingly.

If you are energy conscious, your child will learn to conserve.

If your general lifestyle promotes the motto "waste not, want not", there is much to be learned from that, as well as the reasons why.

So, when any youngster actually asks where you keep your recycling box, that's extremely encouraging. Someone is doing something right I would assume at their house. And, that's where it all begins and should begin.
