Did you know that more than 500 million rounds of golf are played every year and as many as 2.5 billion golf balls are lost? With so many high handicap golfers playing the game it is likely that a golf ball becomes lost before it is worn out. Recycling golf balls has become a mainstream business retailing over 200 Million dollars per year.
It makes sense to buy “experienced” golf balls if you are a beginner or high handicapper. New balls are much more expensive than used balls and will in all likelihood be lost relatively quickly. If you are a low handicap golfer then you may wish to stick with new balls. The reason is that experienced balls may be inferior.
In a U.S. Army Research Laboratory study it was shown that golf balls that have been submerged in water lose 6 to 15 yards driving distance, depending upon how long the balls were submerged for. The reason being that golf balls absorb water than cannot be removed, resulting in permanent change.
