Climate Change: Debunking the Debunkers

BlogOnSmog             Stumble It!
Earth environmentalists slugged by anti-climateologists

In the recent past I have been very disturbed about apparent arguments debunking climate change.   So I decided to do some research of my own.
At some point in a person's life he or she begins to doubt his own beliefs and activities.  This happened to me recently when I started reading more and more rather convincing anti-climate change arguments on the internet and seeing the same on documentaries.   When you see the same  arguments over and over again that contradict your own beliefs it then becomes very difficult not to change sides.

For some time I had been thinking that I had been conned by an international organization whose motivation was government money, suppression of third world countries, etc.  I had myself questioning my own convictions and my actions - why didn't I apply more skepticism and due dilligence before starting down the climate change bandwagon?

So tonight I found myself with some time on my hands.  (I have been extremely busy of late with unrelated activities.)  I decided to initiate research into the most persuasive arguments against the climate change theory.  I do like to think I have some integrity.  If I found that I was wrong and the debunkers were right then I would admit so on my blog and get on with life.  I was expecting to put in mega-hours on each point and perhaps never come up with answers.

But -  I was pleasantly surprised to find that the debunk arguments have all been addressed.  Don't get me wrong - I'm not happy that climate change is real - far from it.  It's just that I feel vindicated by the counter-arguments of the climate change debunkers.   And it saved me a ton of work to boot.

Here are some must read web-sites that I discovered while researching this.

Climate change: A guide for the perplexed

Anti-global heating claims - a reasonably thorough debunking

How to Talk to a Climate Skeptic

Debunking the Urban Legends of Climate Change

I hope you spend some time on at least one of these sites.   If you are an environmentalist then they are must reads.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for posting the URL's to those sites. I just copied them down and will check in on them later--and I also plan to send my mom an email with those links. She's very active, politically, in environmental causes in Montana and she can always use more ammunition!

I find it so hard to believe that anyone still doubts that climate change is occurring. Pretty much the entire scientific community is now in agreement (except for those who work for businesses that are responsible for it).

Thanks as always for raising awareness--soldier on, Steve!

Hey Steve! This happened to me when I read Michael Crichton's "State of Fear". I went on a mad research surf and only then discovered that MC had a hella agenda! I was infuriated to be used that way by a fiction author that I enjoyed. Haha! I never bought another of his books. The one good thing to come of my reading that one was the point he makes with funded research not being unbiased. He wrote of a double blind study in which two separate groups were given a rat research subject. The researchers were each told that they were seeking a different outcome, and the studies' results showed that the outcomes were affected by the simple knowledge of the expected or desired outcome. Not difficult for a witchy gal who believes in the power of the mind to wrap my head around. Hahaha! This was what I was referring to in that comment over at Twilight Earth when first we met! "MC" LOL

Thanks Thorne. The dark look was totally intentional :)

Hi Melinda - "I find it so hard to believe that anyone still doubts that climate change is occurring. "

I hear so much conflicting information, it is difficult to sort it all out at times.

Thorne - now I understand the Michael Chrichton comment. Here I thought I was a dinosaur or something. LOL

Hehehe. I do have a bad habit of sharing my thoughts in a somewhat stream-of- consciousness way sometimes (like I did with the MC comment). I suppose I don't mind when it baffles folks like that guest author over at TE, but I hate it when it leaves me looking like a dummy. LOL! I'm glad the dark look is intentional. You, of all people... hehe
